The project presentation or thesis defense meeting should be at a time when all committee members can be present.
Request and schedule a proposal defense meeting which is agreeable to all members of the committee.
Changes to the student name as submitted, thesis title, or committee may be requested before the exam occurs using the Request Change of Student Name on Thesis, Thesis Title, or Committee Member s Form.
If this does occur, the conditions must be specified on the Examination Report Form along with the name of a committee member who will monitor the fulfillment of any such conditions.
If you are working on a Master Thesis, you may proceed with scheduling a thesis proposal defense meeting optional as soon as the committee has been approved.
You will find your faculty advisor knowledgeable and willing to offer excellent suggestions and advice regarding an appropriate project topic. This second examination must be initiated by submission of a new Committee Recommendation form, even if there is no change in membership.
After the committee is approved by the Graduate College Dean, the Examination Report form is sent to the graduate program support person. The staff in the Graduate College reviews the Committee Recommendation form and, if the recommended committee meets Graduate College guidelines, approval is given by the Dean.
A third defense will not be permitted.
Thesis Proposal Defense Optional Meet informally with the thesis committee and each committee member to get direction for and assistance with the development of the thesis topic and proposal. This form cannot be duplicated and changes cannot be made without prior approval of the Graduate College.
You should provide a copy of the thesis proposal to all committee members at least two weeks prior to the scheduled meeting. To avoid any misunderstanding, you should not proceed with the research until the thesis topic and proposal have been approved by the thesis committee. This committee consists of at least three persons, one of whom must be a tenured full member of the UIC graduate faculty.
Once all signatures have been obtained, a copy should be submitted to the graduate advisor. This must be done at least two weeks prior to the deadline for submitting the electronic thesis. Students must select a supervisor during the first semester, before they register in the second semester.
The proposal will be accepted, accepted with modification, or rejected. You should submit your approved signature page to the graduate advisor.
